AAS 55th Anniversary Celebration Gala Dinner on 6 November 2010

The 55th Anniversary of the Australian Alumni Singapore (AAS) was celebrated in style with a Gala Dinner at the Sheraton Towers Singapore on 6 November 2010. The hotel’s Grand Ballroom was packed to its maximum capacity of 420 guests.

Our Guest-of-Honour was Dr Ng Eng Hen, Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence and his wife, Mrs (Dr) Ivy Ng. Guests at the Main VIP Table hosted by President Loh Hoon Sun and his wife, Brenda, include our AAS Patrons, HE Mr Doug Chester, Australian High Commissioner to Singapore, and Dr Tony Tan, Chairman of Singapore Press Holdings Limited and his wife, Mrs Mary Tan, YB Tan Sri Datuk Amar Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem, Special Advisor to Chief Minister of Sarawak, HE Robert Hill, Chancellor of Adelaide University and Mr George Huang, President of the Singapore Manufacturers’ Federation (SMa).

On top of the usual alumni reunion and networking expected at such gatherings, guests also witnessed the following events:

1 Presentation of the Distinguished Australian Alumnus Award to Dr Tony Tan by Guest-of-Honour, Minister Ng Eng Hen.

2  Signing of the Collaboration Agreement between AAS and SMa http://www.sma.edu.sg/MOU_AAS.asp

With this collaboration, AAS in addition to having a more permanent secretariat and office, can expect an exponentialrise in membership numbers as graduates of SMa Institute graduates come on board. AAS can look forward to more exciting collaborative activities and networking sessions with SMa especially in the area of educational and business networking.

3  Launch of new AAS Social Media Website and Commemorative Book by Minister Ng Eng Hen

The Australian Alumni Singapore’s website has been officially changed to:

4    Cutting of the Anniversary Cake

President and members of the AAS Management Committee and Anniversary Celebration Committee joined Minister and AAS Patrons for the Cake Cutting Ceremony.

5   Photography Exhibition and Charity Sale in aid of The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund (TSTSPMF).  A total of $12,800 was raised for The Straits Times School Pocket Money Fund .

The cheque was presented by Mr Loh Hoon Sun to TSTSPMF representative, Ms Shahrena Hassan, at a separate event, the  AAS Appreciation High-Tea @ Hilton held on 4 December 2010.
