‘Jewels of the Bygone Era’ Concert by The Camerata Musicians

Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel

Several AAS Ex-Co members and family members were privileged to be transported back in time through a magnificent musical journey entitled ‘Jewels of the Bygone Era’ showcasing rare string instruments at the Jubilee Hall, Raffles Hotel on 25 February 2009. Presented by TeamGPA and co-organised by The Peak Magazine, the Camerata Musicians gave an excellent and mesmerizing performance featuring well-loved classical music pieces and who, together with the unconventional Master of Ceremony, Eva, charmed the audience.

We were all enthralled by the richness of the pure melodious strains that exuded from the priceless string instrument collections that included a 1735 David Tecchler cello and a 1909 Giuseppe Pedrazzini violin, which were so skillfully and artistically brought to life by the Master Cellists and Violinists. Ms Karen Yap was the Principal Cellist and Ivan Peev, a Bulgarian Professor, was the Master Violinist. Karen’s husband, Dr Wilson Goh, Managing Director of Team GPA, played the violin and even their nine-year old son, Brendan, played the cello. A musically-talented family indeed!

Any other impressions? As eloquently summed up by Mr Seah Kim Swee’s son, Winston who is an accomplished pianist and composer himself, the event was “An exquisite array of stringed ‘aristocrats’ “sparkled” by twelve accomplished musicians and a young talent, with a selection from both renaissance and recent that would have rejuvenated the aural souls of those composers themselves”
