UTS Asia 25th Reunion

UTS celebrated its 25th anniversary on 26th June 2013 evening in a heart of the city. Together with Benedict Koh and myself who attended the occasion as alumni of UTS, the organising committee had also invited Mr. Loh Hoon Sun, President of Australian Alumni Singapore (AAS) to witness the occasion. The event was kicked off with UTS Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Ross Milbourne giving a warm welcome speech to the Alumni and friend of UTS of more than 30 followed by an outline of the most recent developments, exciting plans for UTS and key achievements. This was their 4th stop over after the Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh City, Jakarta.

UTS, being one of the Institution members of AAS which has a century history is even more excited about how UTS is shaping the future and Prof Milbourne shared the plan of on-going campus which are currently under construction with video clips of the different forms and shapes and welcomed the alumni to go back for a guided tour. UTS has also made a breakthrough of “family” orientated gesture to the alumni and his or her family a 10% discount of any courses undertaken at UTS.

The speech was followed by the Guest Speaker no other than the Australian High Commissioner, HE Philip Green. The High Commissioner was very kind to mention of AAS and Mr Loh in his speech and emphasized his commitment of his strong support for AAS and the university alumni in Singapore and the good relationship between Australia and Singapore. He repeatedly stressed the importance of the contribution of the individual to the alumni and vice versa. He indicated his strong support to grow the Australian Alumni and emphasized his strong recognition of AAS and the university alumni to continue maintaining effort.

The occasion was filled with wine and food. It was a platform of catching-up old friends and meeting new friends. We also met some of the UTS committee members and explored for possible future collaboration where AAS and UTS Alumni can further strengthen the support for our alumni members.

Prof Milbourne and his team left for Hong Kong the following day and ending their Asia roundabout trip in Shanghai in July 13.

AAS is proud to be part of the occasion!
