The Australian Alumni Singapore (AAS) participated in its maiden membership drive targeting fresh Australian graduates at the Network of Singaporean Students Association in Australia (NSSA) Careers @ Home 2011: Public Sector Fair held at the Marina Mandarin Hotel on 21 January 2011.
AAS was proud to be the main sponsor of this event which the student association jointly organised with support from Contact Singapore and the Public Service Division. The career fair provided an opportunity for returning Singapore students who studied at Australian higher education institutions to explore career opportunities in the public sector.
Representatives from the various public organisations were eager to dispense career advice to graduates who hold qualifications from Australian universities. Among others, the organisations that participated in this career fair included the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Finance, The Home Team, Singapore Armed Forces, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Manpower and Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore.
At the career fair, members of the AAS Membership Committee provided information to those who visited the AAS booth. Several freshly minted Australian university graduates signed up to become members of AAS via the AAS website on laptop computers that were made ready for them at the AAS booth.
The NSSA, which was formed in 2009, aims to serve the community of Singaporean students who are studying in Australia by bringing together Singapore Students Associations and Societies across Australia together as a collective group. This career fair will be the first of many events that AAS will work with NSSA as it is vital for AAS to engage the Singapore student body in Australia which acts as a reservoir that will provide a steady supply of new members for AAS.
